An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-trained allied health professional who specialises in the prescription of exercise for people with chronic disease, injury, disability, and complex health conditions. Unlike a personal trainer, an AEP is a registered healthcare provider with clinical training in pathology, pharmacology, and evidence-based exercise prescription — meaning we work with your medical team, not separately from it. Unlike a physiotherapist, who primarily focuses on manual therapy and acute injury management, an Exercise Physiologist focuses on longer-term functional rehabilitation and disease management through structured exercise programs.
No — you can self-refer and book a private consultation directly without any referral. However, if you have a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your GP, an NDIS plan, or a referral from a WorkCover, CTP, or MVA insurer, please bring that documentation to your first appointment as it affects how your sessions are billed. If you're unsure whether you're eligible for funded sessions, give us a call and we'll help you work it out.
Please bring any relevant medical reports, imaging results (X-rays, MRI, ultrasound), referral letters, and a list of your current medications. If you're attending under Medicare, NDIS, WorkCover, CTP, or MVA, bring your referral or funding documentation. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, and closed-toe shoes appropriate for exercise.
Comfortable, flexible clothing you can move freely in — activewear, shorts, or trackpants are all fine. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for safety, particularly during exercise. If your session involves assessment of a specific body region (e.g. lower back, knee), wearing or bringing clothing that allows access to that area is helpful
Initial consultations are approximately 60 minutes and involve a thorough assessment of your history, physical function, and goals before any program is designed. Follow-up sessions are typically 30–60 minutes depending on your funding type and clinical needs. How frequently you attend will depend on your condition and goals — this will be discussed at your initial appointment and reviewed as you progress.
Yes. Consultations are available in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. We have a particular commitment to serving Sydney's culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and we understand that being able to communicate clearly in your own language makes a significant difference to your care and your confidence in your program.
